MORGANTOWN -

The rain was did not hold off participants at the 21st Annual September Stride Walk at Ruby Memorial Hospital Saturday, September 21.

The 5k walk and run is organized by the WVU Healthcare Rehabilitation Services Department. The stride begins and ends in the Ruby Memorial Hospital parking lot after walkers and runners make a loop around the entire WVU Hospital complex.

Proceeds from the event benefited the Richard Rosenbaum Memorial Fund. It provides medication and equipment to patients with cystic fibrosis and other pulmonary problems.

WVU students can earn two hours of volunteer credit by participating in this race.

Each year, cash prizes are awarded to the top female and male runners. First place received $150, second received $100 and third received $50. There was also a $100 prize for a new course record.

Competitors present at the end of the race were also eligible to win a variety of random prizes. Each person that had the best time in different age groups was recognized and received a prize.

The first 200 pre-registered participants were guaranteed a shirt. Cost of registration was $25 for all participants unless they registered before a certain point and were not employees of WVU Healthcare.
