MORGANTOWN -

Red is a color often associated with hearts and the color was all over Mylan Park on Saturday.

Mon General Hospital and the American Heart Association hosted the Great American Heart Walk. Mon General Hospital was the official 'My Heart My Life' sponsor for this year's event.

The event kicked off with the cutting of a red ribbon. More than 200 people walked around the track and learned about signs and facts of stroke and heart disease.

There was also a Heart Dart that took place right before the walk began. It was open to any and all children who wanted to participate. Mon General said this is a good way for kids to start thinking heart-healthy.

Proceeds from the Greater Morgantown Heart Walk go towards scientific research through West Virginia University. Proceeds will also benefit education and outreach of heart disease and stroke, the nation's number one and number four killers, respectively.

The event includes heart and stroke survivors of all ages, from infants to adults.

Representatives from the American Heart Association were there.  The 2013 Walk Chair was also there, Bill Galeota from Steptoe and Johnson.

Survivors of heart disease wore red baseball caps, and survivors of strokes wore white baseball caps during the walk.
