The West Virginia State Outdoor Pistol Championship brought shooters from all over the United States to Barbour County on Saturday and Sunday to compete to be number one.

Shooters from New York, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and even Canada filled the White Horse Center Brassmaster's Range for several rounds of competition.

Kimberly Hobart from Ohio competed in the competition. She's been a Women's National Outdoor Pistol Shooting Champion nine times.

"I've got a great support system behind me, with my family both blood and chosen, it really allows me to go out and follow this passion that I love and go out and compete throughout the United States," said Hobart.

Hobart has been competitive shooting for 25 years. She said she was hooked right from the start.

"My father started volunteering at the national pistol matches, and started taking us up as a family when I was nine. I grew up watching the shooters in this very sport, and was so impressed with the level of excellence and sportsmanship that they had," Hobart explained.

Hobart said it's the relationships she develops with other shooters that keeps her passion for competitive shooting alive.

"One of the great things about it is the camaraderie that you have amongst the other shooters and a lot of us travel throughout the states and we see each other all over," Hobart said.

The competition featured several rounds including slow fire, and rapid fire.

Although there were shooters competing from all over, the state champion must be from West Virginia.
