East West Stadium Receives Funding From Community For Additional Renovations

Posted: Updated:

Between football and soccer games between two schools, East West Stadium in Fairmont sees hundreds of fans every week.

The Marion County Board of Education said the stadium was built in 1938 and has seen its fair share of wear and tear over the years.

The East West Stadium Committee was formed for that very reason. It aims to help make upgrades when they are needed.

The committee has been raising money to restore the concrete stands and install new bleachers.

Each set of ten bleachers costs nearly $38,000 to complete and only one is finished so far.

"We do have money for two more sections but we waited to install those sections or refurbish those sections because of all the activities going on there," said Nancy Bickerstaff, East West Stadium Committee. "We felt we could not schedule and do things correctly."

The committee said it has received an overwhelming amount of support from the Marion County community and a lot of people are on board.

"That's the thing we're committed to," said Andy Neptune, Marion County Board of Education. "Our superintendent is committed to the success of this project and maintaining our stadium. The community is also behind us and continued to support us financially."

The committee expects the entire project to take several years to complete.
