MSHA cites Consol in mine death

Posted: Updated:

The Mine Safety and Health Administration has issued two citations against a Consol Energy mine in Marion County following an investigation into a fatal accident.

Glen Cutter, 51, died Feb. 12 following an accident at Consol's Loveridge No. 22 mine near Mannington when he was struck on the head by a slate bar as he and another miner attempted to re-rail the first of four cars that had de-railed. According to MSHA, the accident was caused by the failure to assure the supply car was secured or blocked against motion before it was lifted, failure to perform adequate task training, failure to maintain the track, and failure to perform an adequate preshift examination.
