Grafton VFD K-9 Unit Receives Several National Certifications

Posted: Updated:

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department's K-9 Search and Rescue Unit has returned from the North American Police Work Dog Association workshop in Kentucky with several national certifications.

The workshop focused on narcotics and cadaver detection, among other things. The dogs were certified in air-scenting and other areas.

"Two dogs certified in human remains detection and that's a very detailed stressful test where they have to find human remains in buildings, in water, in a disaster setting. they have to find it buried, they have to find it high and hanging," said Beckie Stanevich, a Grafton VFD K-9 handler.

Check back Thursday for the second edition of this story, when Kelsey Pape shows us how the K-9 unit works with law enforcement.
