The Taylor County Sheriff's Department is investigating a single-vehicle accident involving a pickup truck in Taylor County Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m. on Route 50 near Maple Run Road, outside of Thornton, near the Taylor and Preston county line, according to Harrison County 911 officials.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department said Marc West, 24, of Kingwood was headed west when he came to a curve in the road and lost control of his truck. The truck hit the guardrail and flipped onto its side.

First responders had to cut West out of the truck, according to Chief Deputy Robert Beltner.

HealthNet was called to the scene and landed on the Thornton Bridge. Both lanes of Route 50 were closed but have since reopened.

Thornton and Grafton fire departments and Taylor County EMS also responded to the scene.

West was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital but has since been released.
