BUCKHANNON -

The Upshur County Board of Education will hold its excess levy election on February 8.

Superintendent Roy Wager said it will be a renewal of the existing five-year levy, and there won't be any new taxes.

The levy would include funding for new textbooks and technologies, free extracurricular activities, and the continuation of the prevention resource officer program.

Wager said without the levy, a lot of services would not be available.

"We would not have all the technology that we have available for our students. We would not be able to purchase all the instructional materials those are all included in that levy. We would not have been able to do a lot of the capital improvements," said Wager.

Wager said the excess levy should generate more than $13 million, and that the board will discuss it at each of its upcoming board meetings.
