The Marion County Sheriff's Department has arrested a Rivesville man on a child abuse charge.
Deputies arrested Charles Edward Smith, 30, after receiving a complaint that he had been abusing a child. The child told an adult, who contacted the sheriff's department, that Smith hit him with a two-foot stick that was up to four inches thick, resulting in a six inch bruise on the back of the child's thigh, according to a criminal complaint.
The sheriff's department photographed the bruise and notified Child Protective Services.
Smith is charged with child abuse resulting in injury. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail.
