BRIDGEPORT -

On Saturday, Operation Christmas Child kicked off its season for collecting shoeboxes at the Fellowship Bible Church in Bridgeport.

Operation Christmas Child said that they receive about 10,000 boxes from Lewis, Harrison and Taylor counties. One of the speakers is a woman who received a shoebox in a Romanian Orphanage.

"My biggest dream in life was to have my own set of hair clips, but I never thought I could have them and I really lacked hygiene items. So having received a shoebox really lit up the world for me. I was able to find out I am loved there's hope out there," said shoebox recipient Livia Satterfield.

Operation Christmas Child said many countries open their doors to spread happiness to the children.

Operation Christmas Child's website said, "Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God's love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child."

Each operation Christmas Child shoebox is filled with a variety of items like school supplies, toys and hygiene items. You can get of full list of acceptable things on Operation Christmas Child's website.
