Enrollment for New Affordable Care Act Begins

Posted: Updated:

Enrollment for the new Affordable Care Act began October 1.

Now, 170,000 uninsured West Virginians will be able to receive Medicaid or tax credits for private insurance.

Those who apply by December 15 could be covered as soon as January 1.

Families making within 400-percent or less of the federal poverty line qualify.

"Like with everything there are certain things that give you concern, but I think overall without question hospitals view this as a positive step forward and are supportive of it," said Thomas Jones, W.Va. United Health System President.

Families making 138-percent or less of the poverty line qualify for Medicaid. That works out to be about 32,500 for a family of four.
