Glenville State Bluegrass Band Preparing For Annual Performance

Posted: Updated:

Glenville State's Bluegrass Band is getting ready for its annual concert, and tickets are now on sale.

Some of the band members took advantage of the nice weather on Tuesday to get some practice for the concert.

Glenville State is the first college in the country to offer a four-year degree in Bluegrass music.

Students play year-round in the area, and the concert brings in people from across the state and beyond.

Director Megan Darby said the concert keeps West Virginia's culture alive.

"It's not just the music, it's a way of living, it's a way of life. Listen to the songs, listen to the words, and it's being passed down on the front porch with grandpa or mom and dad, it's not just something that you grab a book and read," Darby said.

The college will also offer free tours of the Martha White Bluegrass Bus.

The bus is a museum on wheels that shows off old clothes and instruments from bluegrass musicians past.

The concert will be October 25 at 7 p.m. at the Glenville State College Fine Arts Center.
