Work started on Oct. 2 to demolish Johnson Center in Bridgeport. By Oct. 18, the building was completely leveled and cleanup work was being done.

The building was ruled a total loss in an April fire.

Many businesses that were located in Johnson Center have since relocated including Dry Cleaning World and Roberto's.

Workers began demolishing the Johnson Center in Bridgeport Wednesday.

A fire occurred at Total Dental in the strip mall on April 17. The fire then spread to other businesses within the Johnson Center strip mall, including United Rehab, Subway, and Vino e' Vita.

More than 50 firefighters from Bridgeport, Anmoore, Shinnston, Nutter Fort and Stonewood responded to the fire. The fire was extinguished around 11:30 p.m. on April 17 but firefighters remained on scene throughout the night to make sure that the fire didn't reignite.

The building was ruled a total loss, and multiple businesses had to relocate, including Bridgeport Dry Cleaning and Roberto's Pizza.

Workers said it would take about a week to demolish the building. There's no word on whether the center will be restored.
