Conference focuses on cyber security in Charleston, WV

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The West Virginia Office of Technology is using it as an opportunity to encourage safe and secure internet use.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center.

Speakers joined for a conference on Wednesday in Charleston. It focused keeping government information secure there are security dangers that exist at work and home. "The amount of technology we carry around with us on a daily basis is amazing and the amount of information that is out there that others have access to can be scary. We all need to learn the basic kinds of principles to use to protect our own data," said Gale Y. Given, Chief Technology Officer, WVOT.

The speakers included Tony Sager, director of the SANS Institute; Evan Patterson, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Wade Baker from the Verizon RISK Team.
