Randolph County Board of Education Releases Annual Financial Statement

Posted: Updated:

The Randolph County Board of Education has released its annual financial statement.

The board learned the county experienced a more than $900,000 deficit for the 2013 Fiscal Year.

Superintendent Terry George attributes the deficit to a number of factors, including the other post employment benefits liability, Superstorm Sandy, and less than expected revenues generated because of Medicaid.

George said it's not an emergency situation right now.

"We do have a plan to reduce the deficit and bring Randolph County back, and to a budget where we'll produce a balance each year. That will take place over the next year, two years. We're working with the state correct those situations, but it's not an emergency. We understand why the situation happened, and understand what we need to do to correct it," George said.

George said the county school system will present their plans to the state board of education next week.
