Monongalia County Health Department Offering Flu Vaccinations

Posted: Updated:

Getting the flu is more than just a pain, it can lead to hospitalization and even death. But a local health department wants to help and keep you from catching the bug this year.

There are a number of places that you can get a flu shot. This season the Monongalia County Health Department is one.

The Health Department said the most important step to protect yourself, and your family, is to get a flu vaccination each season.

The Monongalia County Health Department Epidemiologist, Ted Krafczyk said, "There are two reasons why it is recommended that everyone six months of age and older should get the 2013-2014 flu vaccination. The first reason is that the flu viruses are constantly changing from season to season so flu vaccines may be updated from one season to the next to protect against the viruses predicted to circulate the most during the coming flu season. The second reason that annual vaccination is recommended is that a person's immunity protection from vaccine declines over time and annual vaccination is needed for optimal protection."

Flu shot clinics are by appointment only. Call the MCHD Public Health Nursing at (304) 598-5119 to schedule an appointment or visit the website for Clinic Appointment information and the flu shot cost.
