Ruskin Manufacturing has announced it will be closing its Fairmont location as of July 31, 2014, according to a news release from Ruskin Manufacturing.

The company said commercial construction markets continue to be down significantly from their peak several years ago. New commercial construction starts are off over 50 percent from 2007 and a significant market increase is not expected in the near future, according to the news release.

Many industries, including Ruskin Manufacturing, that rely heavily on commercial construction have been adversely affected as a result, with Ruskin Manufacturing's business continuing to be affected as well. Ruskin Manufacturing said its northeast markets are some of the hardest hit, Fairmont included.

In addition, the news release states that public nonresidential construction spending has dropped on average at a much high rate than private spending.

Employees were informed Monday that the plant would be closing and were thanked for their 16 years of hard work, according to the news release.

All Fairmont activity will be transferred to surrounding Ruskin Manufacturing locations, including Lexington, Kentucky; Geneva, Alabama; and Parsons, Kansas, over the next several months, according to the news release.
