Construction for the complete renovation of rooms at Canaan Valley Resort has taken two years. Now, it's in the final stages of completing its $34 million project.
"[We're] very, very excited to welcome back our old guests to the new Canaan Valley Mountain Resort, and also welcome new guests that are going to come out here for the first time, we're very happy," said general manager David Herscher.
The project includes 160 new guest rooms. It offers guests a variety of accommodations, from modern guest rooms to spacious suites. Guests will first enter an atrium-style lobby and main lodge, all renovated with sleek stone façade.
Workers on Monday were working on the resort's new gift shop, and grab-and-go café.
The current rooms have been used since they were built in the early 1970s. Herscher said the renovations will be a lasting impact on the resort's future in the tourism industry.
"The old rooms were tired, to say the least, and we look forward to opening this new wing and hotel, and we're very excited about the addition. They're going to see a new Canaan Valley Resort here, and also introduce the new guests to a wonderful facility and a great experience with additional amenities," Herscher said.
Herscher said no matter what season it is, guests will a enjoy comfortable stay, and an area rich with culture and attractions.
"Especially on a day like today, with the fall colors the fog lifting a bit. It's absolutely beautiful. You can travel the country over, and not find a place as beautiful as this here.
The south wing is currently taking guests. The north wing is expected to be open after October 20.
