Weston City Council Approves Location for Law Enforcement Memorial

WESTON -

Weston is the home to the annual West Virginia Law Enforcement Celebration.

On Monday, a group asked Weston City Council to approve the location of a memorial to correspond with the event.

The West Virginia Law Enforcement Festival Queens asked council for approval to place the memorial in front of the Weston Police Department.

The queens are raising money for a memorial that will honor fallen law enforcement officers.

Council voted 3-1 to approve its location, and the memorial will cost about $100,000.

Jennifer Skaggs is a former Miss West Virginia Law Enforcement, and it was her idea for the memorial.

"I decided I want to create a place for the fallen heroes families to mourn as well as recognize those who are continuing to serve today. We wanted it here in Weston because they are the ones who started the West Virginia Law Enforcement Festival. Therefore, we just felt like this was the place for it to be," said Skaggs.

The Law Enforcement queens are working on various fundraisers to pay for the memorial and hope to break ground by next year's festival.
