CHARLESTON, WV -

Attorney J.C. "Max" Wilkinson of the law firm of Spilman Thomas & Battle was invited to speak recently to the Appalachian School of Law Natural Resources and Energy Law Symposium.

He joined a panel of knowledgeable professionals to discuss national energy policy.

At the symposium, representatives from academia, the energy industry, the environmental community and governmental agencies united for rational discussion, intelligent debate and civil discourse.

Wilkinson is co-chair of Spilman's Environmental Practice Group. He focuses on environmental law and environmental toxic tort litigation in his law practice. He previously worked as in-house counsel at an Appalachian coal company, where he gained experience in a wide variety of corporate legal services.

Wilkinson earned his undergraduate degree from University of South Dakota and his law degree, with distinction, from University of Iowa College of Law.

Wilkinson has been an infantry/engineer officer with the Army National Guard for more than two decades and was awarded the West Virginia Bar Association Citizen-Soldier Award in 2011.

Besides its office in Charleston, Spilman, founded in 1864, has two other locations in West Virginia, in Morgantown and Wheeling, as well as offices in Harrisburg, Pa., Pittsburgh, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Roanoke, Va.
