WHEELING, WV -

The West Virginia Municipal Lawyers Association has a new president.

Rosemary Humway-Warmuth serves as the city solicitor for the city of Wheeling and also serves as legal counsel for the city of Cameron.

She is the only attorney in the state to be certified as a Local Government Fellow by the International Municipal Lawyers Association, which provides local governments a reliable benchmark for identifying experienced and knowledgeable local government legal practitioners.

The association, a stateside organization that focuses on the particular needs of local government attorneys, acts as a forum for municipal attorneys, allowing them to network and advocate on behalf of local government law issues.

The WVMAA meets several times a year in different areas of the state and provides continuing legal education credit to its members.

Humway-Warmuth also serves as the International Municipal Lawyers Association's state chairwoman for West Virginia. In this role, she will be a moderator and participant on several panels at the national conference this fall.

She also is a member of the Municipal League of West Virginia's legislative review committee and assists the League on various state legislation.

She previously served as the secretary for the state of West Virginia Municipal Attorneys Association and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio County Bar Association, the West Virginia Bar Association and the State Bar Local Government Lawyers Committee.

Prior to her appointment as Wheeling's city solicitor, she served as assistant city solicitor. She was employed as an assistant attorney general for the state from 1994 to 1997, where she served as legal counsel for state colleges and universities throughout West Virginia.

She also served as city attorney in Wellsburg. Prior to practicing in West Virginia, Humway-Warmuth earned her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich.

She has taught Introduction to Law, Forensic Evidence and Trial Techniques as an adjunct professor at Bethany College.
