In a news release from U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall's office, it was announced that members of the House of Representatives pushed for members of the Guard and Reserve to head back to work.

A statement was released on Tuesday that some West Virginia National Guard personnel will be recalled from unpaid furloughs from the rest of the Federal government shutdown.  A bipartisan group of 88 congressman, including Rahall, called on the Secretary of Defense to provide pay and non-furloughed status to all categories of Guard and Reserve members.

"I am glad to see that many of West Virginia's full-time National Guard employees are going back to work," said Congressman Rahall. "the men and women of the National Guard provide invaluable services to our State and Nation and they certainly should not be punished for the current political standoff in Congress."

Rahall went on to say that while this is good news, there are still many West Virginians who are not getting a reprieve.

"Three is no reason why Congress cannot get its job done.  I hope West Virginians will join me in pressing to reopen the government quickly and avert the harm that is being caused to our State's residents and businesses," added Rahall.

As a part of the statement, Rahall also said the essential services are being unnecessarily disrupted.  The list of those services included health and safety inspections for coal mines, industrial plants and food processing facilities.
