Students at Elkins Middle School are doing their part to take a stand against bullying.

This is West Virginia Bully Awareness Week.

Students are sharing positive messages by hanging paper chain links or bulletin boards throughout the school.

Students said any positive message makes a difference.

"This is really helping with our school environment. I think this is a really good thing we're doing," said Maddi Bowers, of Elkins Middle School.

"We are succeeding and spreading a positive chain reaction throughout the school, and changing a lot of attitudes," said George Triplett, of Elkins Middle School.

The U.S. Department of Education said 47 percent of West Virginia middle school students have been bullied on school property, and 24 percent have been bullied electronically.
