Fire destroyed a home and damaged another in Barbour County Monday night.

911 officials said it happened on Bear Mountain Road near Route 76.

Firefighters said the fire started around 11:15 p.m. and it took crews a couple hours to get under control.

The person living in the house that was destroyed was on vacation.

Neighbors who lived next door were able to get out safely, but their house sustained about $5000 in damage.

Firefighters said there was a short in the air conditioning.

The Fire Marshal will be investigating.
