Volunteers said the problem began when Monongalia County condensed the committees overseeing the park into one.
The Ices Ferry Bridge crossing Cheat Lake in Monongalia County was dedicated Tuesday morning as the "U. S. Army and Air National Guard Col. Garry L. Bowers - Ices Ferry Bridge."
Senators Bob Beach and Robert Williams introduced the bill to change the name.
Bowers owned WCLG radio station and was a life-long Morgantown resident who served in the Army and Air National Guard. He died in 2011.
The original 90-year-old Steel Truss Bridge was demolished in Monongalia County in September 2012. The new bridge opened in November 2012.
