Wednesday is Breast Reconstruction Awareness day, or Bra Day. It's part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Bra Day raises awareness about the options patients have following a mastectomy.

The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act mandates insurance companies to cover the cost of a mastectomy and reconstruction.

"It really is up to the women, in terms of her decision and what she wants to go through. We help facilitate those decisions in the best way possible," said Dr. James Butterworth, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

"Sometimes I can forget I even had cancer. I don't worry about it anymore. I'm constantly vigilant and I got to my doctor appointments, but it makes you feel like a real women, and puts you back to before you had cancer," said Susan Gookin, a cancer survivor.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons said reconstructive surgery has risen more than 15 percent since 2000.
