Marion County Superintendent Gary Price said Blackshere Elementary School, Mannington Middle School, and North Marion High School were closed Thursday as crews worked to put out a nearby fire.

The fire was reported at Chancelor's Auction House and Wholesale on Husky Highway in Farmington. 911 officials said the fire started at 4:51 a.m.

The Farmington Volunteer Fire Department said the building was fully involved when they arrived. Tankers as far as Wetzel County had to bring water to the scene since there were no fire hydrants nearby, according to firefighters.

The State Fire Marshal's Office said it appears that the fire originated in the back of the auction house side of the  building and said the building consisted of several additions and two homes that were joined to create one building.

According to the State Fire Marshal's Office, the total loss may exceed $1 million. At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown. The State Fire Marshal's Office said that it is currently working with insurance investigators to determine what happened.

Crews had to close Route 250 as they worked to put the fire out. It has since reopened.

Officials said no injuries were reported. The building is a total loss and the owner plans to rebuild, according to firefighters.

On Thursday afternoon, firefighters were called back to the scene after the fire rekindled.
