An investigation by the Greater Harrison Drug and Violent Crime Task Force led to searches of a Stonewood residence and a Bridgeport motel and the arrest of a former Stonewood resident, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II.

The Stonewood residence was searched in February of 2013, pursuant to a federal search. During the search, officers recovered both heroin and money, according to the news release.

Matthew Vanhorn, 27, was arrested on October 11 after distributing heroin to a confidential informant and charged with one count of distribution of heroin. Following the arrest, a room at the Wingate Hotel in Bridgeport was searched. Officials said the room was where Vanhorn has been residing since July of 2013.

Officers found $4,121 in cash, multiple bundles of heroin totaling approximately 90 grams, a Nokia cell phone, two bottles of Advil contain empty heroin bags, two pocket books containing various paraphernalia, multiple empty bags of heroin, Samsung cell phone, a LG cell phone, an iPad, and debit cards during the search, according to the news release.

Two children were present during the execution of the search warrant at the motel, and were in close proximity to empty heroin baggies, according to the news release.

On October 18, Vanhorn appeared before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull and was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal.
