Former WV House Minority Leader Charles Trump announces WV Senate run

Posted: Updated:

Former House of Delegates Minority Leader Charles S. Trump announced Oct. 21 he had filed pre-candidacy paperwork to run for state Senate.

The 53-year-old Morgan County attorney served 14 years in the House of Delegates, eight of those as minority leader, and decided not to run again after the 2006 session.

He now is seeking the 15th senatorial district, which includes all or parts of Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire and Mineral counties and currently is represented by Sen. Donald H. Cookman, D-Hampshire, a former judge who was appointed to the seat last year by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.

"I am seeking election to represent the interests of the citizens of our Eastern Panhandle in the West Virginia Senate," Trump said in a news release. "This is a critical time for West Virginia and our Eastern Panhandle, and we need strong leadership from the panhandle in Charleston right now."

Trump and his wife, Susan, have three adult children.
