Fairmont General Hospital Close to Reaching Campaign Goal for New Machine

Posted: Updated:

Fairmont General Hospital's Board of Directors has announced that it is only $50,000 away from reaching its campaign goal for Navigational Bronchoscopy.

The system will produce real time 3-D images enabling physicians to take biopsies of the lungs.

The decision to purchase the machine has resulted in the savings of $50,000 and the campaign goal has been lowered from $180,000 to $130,000.

"This truly is a win-win. Because we were able to accept the device sooner, we achieved a $50,000 economic savings. But the potential life savings use of the machine, it will be on the ground here in the hospital and in the use five to six months sooner," said Nick Fantasia, of the Fairmont General Hospital Board of Directors.

"We're only 50,000 away which we think is doable, as Nick did say, it can get it here faster and potentially save a lot of lives with the early detection," said Jo Thomas, of the Fairmont General Hospital Board of Directors.

The campaign for Navigational Bronchoscopy is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
