Update

A Lewis County museum is getting ready to unveil its newest work next month.

Thanks to grants from the state and help from the community, the Mountaineer Military Museum is almost ready to reopen.

Owner Ron McVaney has been working on the new space, which will include personal items from veterans around the area, and dioramas displaying scenes from past conflicts.

McVaney says the museum provides a way for everyone to connect to the stories of the veterans.

"They've heard these stories around the campfire and around the living room and stuff, and now they can connect this. So, yeah, there's a lot of pride involved in that," McVaney said.

The museum will reopen next month and show off its newly completed addition on Veterans Day.

A Lewis County landmark is getting more help in improving its building.

The Mountaineer Military Museum has received a Governor's Community Partnership grant for $2,500 for improvements to the museum.

The grant was accepted by the Lewis County Commission at its regular meeting this week.

The commission has also approved the application for a second grant for the museum, as well as applications and awards for the Ireland Community Center, Jackson Community Center and Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants.
