BRIDGEPORT -

Pierpont Community and Technical College hosted the West Virginia Community College Association and the West Virginia Association for Developmental Education joint annual conference.

It took place at the Bridgeport Conference Center in Harrison County.

It gives the state's community college professionals a place to share opportunities for growth and learning, and a platform for sharing institutional challenges and success stories.

"We're all working on a lot of similar problems in the state. Trying to get new students in, trying to get our students to succeed. This way, really the experts come to us. We get to listen to them and pick their brains and learn what they learned. Then we get to go forward and try it with our own classrooms," said Dr. Doreen Larson, Pierpont President.

This year's conference theme is "The Secret is Revealed". It speaks to both the continued challenges facing West Virginia community colleges as well as the continued progress made in educating and training the states workforce.

"Community colleges are unique. First of all, they are uniquely American. This Community College Association has been around for many years in West Virginia. It celebrates the uniqueness of community college education," said Jim Skidmore, Chancellor of the Community and Technical College System of West Virginia.

Attendees had the opportunity to discover the areas local treasured secrets with a tour of the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division and the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center.
