MORGANTOWN -

Homeowners may often see creepy crawlers in their yards and most consider them to be pests.

Those are the people that came together and learned how to better get rid of them on Saturday.

West Virginia University Extension Service held the Lawn and Landscape Pesticide Re-certification Workshop in the South Agriculture building on the Evansdale Campus.

The event was for private applicators and lawn and landscape professionals seeking re-certification to deal with the pests.

The topics discussed were identification and management of common lawn and landscape pests (insects, weeds, and diseases), importance of balanced nutrition for lawns and ornamental, proper fertilizer and pesticide storage.

"To have a pesticides certification license you need to fulfill certain re-certification credits every several years and so this is one opportunity for them to fill those and continue their education," said Daniel Frank, the Entomology Extension Specialist at West Virginia University.

Ten continuing certification units (5 hours) were approved for categories 4A (Ornamental and Turf Outdoors), 4B (Indoor Ornamental), 11 (Demonstration and Research), and 12 (Pesticide Storage and Distribution) for attending that workshop.

The university is hoping to make this workshop an annual event and plans to host another next Fall.
