BRIDGEPORT -

The General Federation of Women's Clubs Bridgeport Junior Women's Club hosted a 5K and kids run on Saturday in Bridgeport.

The 2nd Annual Trick or Trot featured a 5K run, a one mile run, and a kids dash.

Kids got to participate in the races and wear their Halloween costumes.

There were prizes awarded to the winners of the 5K and a Halloween party was held for the kids.

The race coordinator for the event said the whole day is family friendly.

"We want to have a fun, family, community oriented event. We encouraged everyone to bring the whole family, dress in costumes, and just have a really good time," said Emily Stapleton, the race coordinator.

Stapleton said the Juniors also offered healthy options for snacks.

"Instead of having store bought treats for after we have a lot of homemade Halloween goodies," Stapleton said.

The proceeds from the race will benefit local children through the GFWC Bridgeport Junior Women's Club project, "sweet dreams – may all your dreams come true" which provides winter items and toiletries to children in need.

Stapleton said the Trick or Trot 5K will be an annual event.

The GFWC Juniors have fundraisers all year round. You can learn more about them here.
