Local Merchants Participate in Trick-or-Treat Festivities

Posted: Updated:

On Wednesday, more than 40 Clarksburg business owners kept their doors open to help kick off the Halloween spirit downtown.

Hundreds of kids, decked out in their costumes, came out to the courthouse lawn to enjoy live music, vendors, and of course Halloween candy!

Both business owners and participants alike said the "Merchants' Trick-Or-Treat" is a great tradition.

"It gets people in downtown Clarksburg in to see the actual businesses and what we do have to offer in Clarksburg. People leave their businesses open, people can come and shop, and look around, and the kids can trick-or-treat and get candy," said Valerie Howe of Howe Cute Children's Clothing Boutique.

"We just dressed her up as a sock monkey and brought her out for her first trick-or-treating," said Ruth Hardway, who brought her daughter, Tanga, out to trick-or-treat.

Trick-or-Treating in the rest of Clarksburg will be Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Also on Wednesday evening at Suncrest Town Centre in Morgantown, more than a dozen businesses in the plaza hosted tick or treating. Kids were able to get hands full of candy from each of the participating shops.

The children were out in full costume to show off their outfits. There was even an opportunity for the kids to have their picture taken in costume in front of Suncrest Town Centre.
