Several Fundraisers Set Up to Help Family of Elkins Fire Victims

Posted: Updated:

The outpouring of support for the Chamberlain family after a fire in Elkins left five dead and two in critical condition is starting to take shape in many ways. Several fundraisers are being set up to help cover expenses.

Elkins Mayor Van Broughton is serving as a liason to the immediate family.

Broughton said the Chamberlain family had no life insurance. A memorial fund has been set up at Citizens Bank in Elkins.

"I let them know that the community is supporting them, that our love is there for them and each member of the community is going to walk with them step by step through this," Mayor Broughton said.

Broughton said the first fundraiser will be a Candlelight Vigil Monday, November 4 at 7 p.m. at the Elkins Town Square.

The First Baptist Church in Elkins will also hold a spaghetti dinner November 16 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dinners will cost $7 for adults and $3 for kids 10 and under. Ticket will be available at the door.

A cakewalk, 50/50 drawing and auction will be held on November 9 at George Ward Elementary School, starting at 6:30 p.m.
