Harrison County Judge J. Lewis Marks, Jr. sentenced Kannan Kesavan, 31, to two to 10 years for soliciting a minor via a computer.
A Morgantown man accused of trying to hire a babysitter with benefits has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
Harrison County Judge J. Lewis Marks, Jr. sentenced Kannan Kesavan, 31, to two to 10 years for soliciting a minor via a computer. Kesavan posted an advertisement on a social media site in June 2013 stating that he was looking for a babysitter with benefits and was willing to pay for sexual acts, plus $10 an hour to babysit. A reply was sent back to Kesavan from what was believed to be a 15-year-old girl from Bridgeport. Kesavan told the girl that he looked up the age of consent, knew that she was underage, and wanted to make sure that she was okay with that, according to a criminal complaint.
Kesavan's attorney made a motion for alternative sentencing, including allowing Kesavan to leave the country because he is a citizen of India. Judge Marks denied the request. Kesavan is ordered to pay court costs and will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years, following his release. He will receive credit for time served.
