Mountain East Reveals Basketball Preseason Polls During Inaugural Media Day

The Mountain East Conference held its inaugural media day for the upcoming men's and women's basketball seasons on Monday. Players and coaches from each team represented the 12 member institutions, answering questions from the media.

West Liberty was tabbed the favorite in both the men's and women's preseason polls. The Hilltoppers men's basketball team is ranked third in the nation heading into the 2013-14 season.

Fairmont State was also placed highly in both polls. The Falcon men are picked are runner-up to West Liberty, while the Lady Falcons are chosen as third. Fairmont State Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun brings in a talented recruiting class in 2013-14, and looks to compete with the Hilltoppers for the top spot in the men's portion of the Mountain East.

The Glenville State women's team was picked to finish runner-up behind West Liberty. The Lady Pioneers shared five votes with the Lady Hilltoppers. Glenville State Head Coach Charles Marshall inherits a squad loaded with talent, left over from previous head coach Bunky Harkleroad, who left last month for the same position at Division-I Sacramento State.

The Glenville State men were chosen to finish in eighth. Head Coach Stephen Dye enters his fifth season with the Pioneers, admitting this year's squad will be his best yet.

West Virginia Wesleyan was picked to finished in the middle-of-the-pack in the new league. The Wesleyan men are picked ninth and the women are eighth. Patrick Beilein heads into his second year leading the Bobcat men's program. Jackie DeVane enters her third season, looking to transition the Lady Bobcats into a contender as the season unravels.
