Posted: Updated:

Fairmont General Hospital has been named a top performer on Key Quality Measures for the third straight year.

The Joint Commission recognized the hospital to using evidence-based clinical processes shown to improve care for certain conditions.

Fairmont General Hospital is the only hospital in the state to receive the award and only 182 hospitals have received this honor three years in a row.

"We understand that what matters most to patients at Fairmont General Hospital is safe, effective care. That's why Fairmont General has made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. Fairmont General Hospital is proud to receive the distinction of being a Joint Commission Top Performer on Key Quality Measures," said CEO Peggy Coster.

The hospital was recognized for its achievement in heart attack, pneumonia, and surgical care. The ratings are based on data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

"What it means for the community is that when you receive this award, you know when you come into this hospital that we are following nationally recognized standards to give you the best care that you deserve," said Terri Bonasso, Director of Quality and Risk Management at FGH.

Hospitals earning this special recognition must achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures. A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities to provide the practice.

Each accountability represents' an evidence-based practice.
