High Schools in Doddridge, Monongalia Counties Honor Veterans

Posted: Updated:

Doddridge County High School hosted a program to honor veterans on Friday afternoon at the high school.

The annual program featured students reading poems, the choirs singing patriotic songs, speeches, and more.

Doddridge County High School Principal, Gregory Kuhns said it gives the students an opportunity to thank the local veterans.

"Each year at this time we bring veterans in and we invite anyone from the area and we even have some here from out of state today. It's something that gives the students an opportunity to say thank you to our vets. We have a little reception after with cookies and punch and they'll walk around and tell the students how fortunate they are," explained Kuhns.

This was the third year for the veterans ceremony that involves both the middle school and high school students.

The Doddridge County Veteran's Day Parade will be on Monday at 4 p.m. in West Union.

Morgantown High School also honored veterans with a school wide Veterans Day assembly Friday.

The program had selections performed by the MHS Band and orchestra.

Veterans from each military branch were honored and asked to stand while the orchestra played the armed forces songs.

Students, faculty and veterans also joined together for a Vietnam Veterans tribute.

United States Marine Corps Major Ryan Gazaway was the special guest and addressed the crowd.
