Randolph County Helps Support Elkins Fatal Fire Victims Family

MILL CREEK -

People from all over Randolph County and surrounding counties came out to George Ward Elementary School on Saturday to support the Chamberlain family.

Residents packed the gymnasium to raise funds to help the family's medical and funeral expenses. At the school there was an auction and a cake walk. Many residents and organizations donated items to be auctioned off to offer support.

"This, this has not brought the community together; this has brought the county that if someone is in need me and Van Broughton the mayor of Elkins has got together and we wanted out of this whole thing that it would be a county wide thing, and it has and I am hopeful that this county comes together," said organizer Harvey Taylor.

Elkins Mayor Van Broughton said the memorial fund set up at Citizens Bank has raised $40,000. The auction, 50/50 and cake walk Saturday night raised almost $50,000 to help the family with funeral and medical expenses. Mayor Broughtton would like to thank all those who helped and offered their support to the Chamberlain family Saturday night.
