Mountaineer Military Museum Officially Re-Opens in Weston

WESTON -

The Mountaineer Military Museum officially re-opened in Weston on Monday afternoon.

The museum had been closed since September to add more inventory to a new wing of the museum.

On Monday a ribbon cutting was held and the museum was open to the public and veterans to see the new addition.

Barb McVaney co-owns the museum with her husband, Ron McVaney, and said the look on the veterans' faces makes the work worth it in the end.

"You walk around and you see them at a display or one of the dioramas and you see the emotion in their eyes. This place we think is a place of healing for a lot of folks who have kept those war memories hidden and it's a way to let them out and let them know that we appreciate them," explained Barb McVaney.

The McVaney's opened the Mountaineer Military Museum at first with items that Ron had collected as a tribute to his friends who had died in the line of duty.

Barb McVaney said that they want the museum to feel like home to the veterans.

The museum is now open to the public. For more information you can visit the website here.
