WVU Economists Predict Bright Future for Morgantown Area

Posted: Updated:

Economists forecast a bright future for the Morgantown area.

Economists from West Virginia University said the area remains immune from the recession's effects and that employers like WVU, NIOSH, and the local hospitals will keep the local economy stable.

"About 46 percent of our employment comes from either government or healthcare. Those sectors have been stable in the state and they're expected to remain stable and expected to grow. It's mostly the industrial composition why we have that tremendous stability here," said John Deskin, a WVU Economist.

That's a sharp contrast to the state as a whole, which economists forecast will only see a shrinking and aging population in the coming year.
