Alderson Broaddus University to Host Annual Honors Concert

Posted: Updated:

Alderson Broaddus University will hold an annual concert next week.

The school will hold its annual Honors Wind Ensemble on Monday and Tuesday.

The ensemble features high school students from four states.

Students who are accepted to perform must fill out an application, and receive a letter of recommendation from their teachers before they can be a part of the event.

Professors said it gives the students a taste of performance at a higher level, and offers opportunities for the campus.

"It's really a group effort and learning experience for everybody on various levels. Our students get to help out teaching these students about new techniques or getting them prepared for this particular concert," said Dr. Lauren Lindsey, chair of the music department at ABU.

Lindsey also said the ensemble is a good recruiting tool for the college, as it allows students to learn more about AB's program.

Only about 70 to 90 students are accepted to perform in the group each year.

They also participate in auditions and sectional rehearsals after they arrive.

The students perform six or seven pieces each year, and will learn the music over the two days they spend on campus.

The ensemble concludes with a performance on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

That concert is free and open to the public.
