MECCA 911 to Soon Welcome New Mobile Command and Communication Unit

Posted: Updated:

The Monongalia Emergency Centralized Communications Agency, or MECCA 911, will soon spend a quarter of a million dollars on a new mobile command and communication unit.

Delegate Barbara Fleischauer presented MECCA with a $7,000 check for the project.

Fleischauer said the money came from a failed project that the house wanted to see put to good use.

The current mobile command center was purchased in the 80s.

"With these upgraded services we'll be able to have Internet, cellular phones, radio communications, satellite. Everything we would need to properly serve the community during a disaster or whatever the event may be," said Mike Wolfe, of MECCA 911.

Monongalia County Commission also agreed to give MECCA $175,000 to upgrade computers.

MECCA said it's the first of five steps in meeting national Next Generation 911 standards.
