Reports that made their way around school media on Thursday about a lockdown at Preston High School are not true, according to Preston County Schools' Superintendent.

Although the school was not put on lockdown, it did have heightened security Thursday after some postings on social media earlier this week caused concern. The superintendent said due to the concerns, there were more members of law enforcement at the school Thursday morning.

Preston High School's principal said the school also ran emergency drill Wednesday but said they were routine and scheduled far in advance.

The reports started on a Facebook page and the school's principal said parents arrived at the school to pick up their kids as a result.

The principal added that if the school is ever put on lockdown, the school will notify parents.
