On Thursday, residents from north central West Virginia crowded into Fairmont State University's Caperton Center in Clarksburg to see a documentary called ‘Oxyana' about medical prescription addiction.

Oxyana is a documentary based in Oceana West Virginia on the epidemic of Oxycontin abuse. Steve Hamilton, representative of the Mountain Party said "the documentary is important because it is also an issue we face right here in Harrison County, especially with the murders right here on locust Avenue."

Lou Ortenzio who was a former dependant of drugs said, "where ever people are using drugs and alcohol, that there is helplessness." He said that he became drug free by meeting Jesus Christ. Ortenzio now mentors at Celebrate Recovery within the Clarksburg Baptist Church.

"I think it's pretty much the same story here. We have a lot of folks who have become addicted to prescription pain medications and other drugs and alcohol and they suffer hopelessness; we saw the hopelessness in Oceana," said Ministry leader of Celebrate Recovery Ortenzio.

Ortenzio said there is help out there and encourages addicts to ask for help and to choose a program that would benefit them to kick drug addiction. He also said a common saying you will hear in recover is  "you're only as sick as your secrets" and that a lot of addicts are secretive about their addictions.
