Efforts to Curb Drug Activity in Lewis County Result in Higher Jail Bills

Posted: Updated:

Efforts to curb drug activity in Lewis County have resulted in many drug arrests, and higher jail bills, too, according to officials.

The Lewis County Commission will receive one of its largest bills this year for the month of October but Sheriff Adam Gissy said the county is looking at ways to bring those costs down, but keep up the fight against drugs.

Gissy said expansion of the home confinement program has the potential to make a big difference.

"We are hoping over the next couple months that we can double that or get somewhere close to the fifty mark. That's our goal, and in turn, that'll save the county substantially on the regional jail bill," Gissy said.

The Commission will hold its next meeting on Wednesday morning.
