Morgantown City Leaders Meet to Discuss Community Development Block Grants

Posted: Updated:

Morgantown has a lot to offer residents, except options for low-cost housing.

That's one of the issues the city leaders want to tackle through the community development block grants.

They met to get input for a five-year plan for those grants Tuesday.

Some city leaders want to see that money somehow help families that can't afford most of the housing available in Morgantown.

"A lot of professional people with the salaries they make can't afford to purchase a home in Morgantown under the median price. And if they do purchase a home it's considered a fixer-uper and it usually requires quite a lot of fixing up," said Davis Bott, of the Community Development Office.

City leaders said the median price for a Morgantown home is around $200,000.

They also hope to address affordable rent for families.
