Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra winter concert slated for Dec. 3

On Dec. 3, West Liberty University will sponsor the winter concert of the Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra.

It will take place at 7 p.m. at Vance Memorial Church along National Road in Wheeling. The event is free of cost and open to the public.

"The Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra's winter concert will feature some great music that showcases our young students," said Jason Koegler, vice president of Institutional Advancement.

The program will include the following pieces: Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copeland, Forever Free, by Kenneth Fuchs (Wheeling Symphony premiered this work last summer) and Russian Christmas music.

Youth Orchestra Manager Michelle Stack also is a member of the WLU campus community and is director of the College Union. A professional musician, she plays the viola in the Wheeling Symphony.

The Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra and the newly formed Wheeling Symphony Junior Orchestra, under the direction of Justin Jones, offers young musicians from the tri-state area a formal venue in which to train and perform together. Youth Orchestra members are high school through college age students and Junior Orchestra members are 5th through 8th grade students.

Rehearsals for both orchestras are held weekly from September through April, with two big public concerts each year.

Joining WLU as concert sponsors are: Bedway Development Corporation, James L. Comerci, M.D., Micah Labishak, McCamic, Sacco and McCoid, Main Street Bank, Dr. Dennis and Donna Niess, Sapon & Sapon, D.D.S., Select Home Support, Paul Tucker and Ye Olde Alpha.

A reception will follow the performance.
